House Fire

Photo Essay: House Fire '07

Intro:
Before work one day in February, I awoke to see the neighbor's house become engulfed as written about on ESR in a post titled, "Too Toasty".
The following were taken on a simple Kodak disposable, 800 asa film cam. The only alterations made to some exposures is cropping of the flames peak shot, and using my licensed paint program to pixelate identifying signage of town and street names from equiptment and one license plate number. I retain the orginal negatives.

Before

The home on The Hill which I witnessed becoming toast appears in it's prime last October 2006 in the left side of a late day folliage pic. New drywall, siding, roof, doors, bay window, and much work were put into the structure in the past eighteen months or so they've owned the place.
Now I wish I'd taken a close-up of it. (Too late now).

Pre-Fire Department arrival-

All of these numbered fire-scene-progression shots were taken from the deck and stairs just outside my apartment doorway while wearing my pajamas.

Hot, hot, hot!
Thank God no one was in the house! Of course, we didn't know that yet...

Same shot cropped and used on ESR.

That one corner where the fire-fighters are climbing flamed up over and over and again about five times, even after they cut heat-vents in the roof.

Next Day 4

The Mom was at work, Dad was too. The oldest 16-year-old boy was out for the day. The nine-year-old twin girls were packed up visiting Grandma for vacation week. Luckily, they paid stiff premiums for good insurance which is paying for their apartment rental around the corner.

After

All boarded up-

The Fire Department determined the fire was sparked by a brand new extention cord pinched under the couch. The inexpensive wire had been purchased the previous day at the local Walmart. Buyer beware...

Epilogue

The view out the door leaves much to be desired. I have to drive past the charred shell every day.
My view from the deck will never feel or be the same...

I don't look forward to another year of loud, daily building construction keeping me from getting any sleep, but it sure beats awakening to that terrifying flame monster!
